Summer Spell at the Resident

This past Saturday, the Resident was taken over by Beating Lights along with Shop Used // Shop Local, B&P // Beats And Pieces and Beyond the Lines Art Show for a summer afternoon filled with good local music and great vibes!

With a food truck and bar lining the entrance to the welcoming sun-filled patio and a perfectly packed maze of local vendors offering goods from essential oils to closet essentials, and the cool indoor space complete with bar and stage, it’s clear that The Resident was built for cozy afternoon events just like this.

The music began at 1:00 p.m. with a DJ set by So Many Wizards, and I arrived just in time to catch the last few songs of the opening band, Wet & Reckless, who filled the room with dreamy garage-punk female fronted rock. It was full of energy and a great way to start off the afternoon!

Alternative rock group Trickster Guru took the stage next, performing tracks that really showcased frontman’s incredible vocal abilities and invited the concert-goers to “Feel the Spirit” of the afternoon. Fever Charm invited the crowd forward into a more intimate performance, and it was clear that many of their friends came to support them, as a couple of carefree show-goers let it all hang loose on the dance floor. LA Font closed the show with the final 4:00 p.m. set and performed their heart out with an alternative rock L.A. sound.

Sadly, I missed my opportunity to get a $10 tattoo, but I did get the opportunity to make new friends who all share a deep love of music.

Check out this awesome video recap from Beating Lights:

Major kudos to Shab at Beating Lights for putting this event together, and for her commitment to organizing fun and creative events that support the L.A. music community! Follow Beating Lights and stay tuned for more good vibes!
